Psychotherapy or counselling is the process of meeting with a therapist to explore and unpack problematic behaviours, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, or sensations in the body. It is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties help to learn, develop, and implement skills that increase levels of well-being in life.
The length of time you choose to engage in therapy is entirely up to you. From research I have done, using a cognitive behavioural therapy approach, change is noticed within 6-8 sessions of therapy. However I have worked with clients for much, much longer than that. As our work unfolds, we will get a clearer picture of what your needs are, and how I can best support you.
Yes! I often assist those who are needing short term arrangements for therapy, so trying out one session to see if we are a good fit is OK! I have training in solution-focused brief therapy. Please let me know if this is your plan so I can ensure to send you on your way with additional community resources afterward.
I usually prefer to work with individuals one on one. I do not offer couple's or family therapy with my practice at this point in time. The best way to know if we would work well together is by reaching out, sharing part of your story, and sharing what you hope to achieve with therapy. If I don’t believe that I would be the right practitioner for you, I would be happy to help you find a therapist who may better suit your needs in your area.
At this time, my number one priority is health and safety, for your family, and my own as we are living in unpredictable times during the pandemic. For this reason, all sessions are conducted via phone or video. That said, I hope to transition back to in-person therapy in the future.
Standing appointments mean that you have a regular time-slot on the same day every biweekly, making our time together a new part of your routine. If you have a day and time you’re interested in, or a few that work with you, I can try my best to accommodate your schedule where I can.
It’s just a matter of personal preference and level of comfort. Some of my clients prefer phone sessions to video sessions, because they are not entirely comfortable with video communication technology, they have a poor internet signal, they prefer to be "unseen" for more confidentiality, or they like to do their sessions on the go.
At this time, I am only offering services to individuals in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. However, if you are needing assistance or information - don't hesitate to reach out to me.
Psychology Today is a great place to start looking for local practitioners in your area!
If I could, I would offer my services at no-cost to everyone. However, I too have to put food on the dinner table. In an effort to accommodate my clients, I charge $120.00 + GST per 50 minute session. I can sometimes offer a sliding-scale fee - but only on a case by case basis.
Sessions typically last 50 minutes of time so that we have enough time to unpack and learn new skills without reaching mental exhaustion.
Many of my clients pay on their own, and then submit a copy of the receipt after session to get reimbursed through their health insurance plans. However, because I am registered as a Certified Canadian Counsellor some insurance companies will reimburse for my services.
Because not all insurance providers are created equally, please make sure to check with your provider in advance to see if Clinical Counsellors are covered in your plan.
At this time, my preferred method of payment is through credit card, which is processed through the OWL portal used to sign up for sessions (which is a safe and secure way for me to schedule appointments, keep track of sessions, and allow you to direct book into my calendar). It is simple, easy, and quick to use. Payments are processed through Stripe.
Since each insurance plan is different and unique, it can be difficult to become a provider due to there being so many different health insurance plans and companies out there.
I may be able to direct bill for some Blue Cross plans, so please inquire within for more information if you have health benefits through them.
